Jedward interview in Muzu Studio ahead of the Eurovision 2012 semi-finals.
Jedward are an Irish pop duo who rose to public prominence after appearing in the UK version of hit televised reality singing competition The X Factor. They represented their country two years in a row at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011 performing Lipstick in Germany and performing Waterline in Baku, Azerbaijan. The twins John and Edward Grimes received the Marcel Bezençon Award Artistic Award for Lipstick, as decided by the Eurovision’s commentators.
John and Edward Grimes were catapulted into the public discourse on the UK version of hit televised reality singing competition The X Factor. They attended one of many public auditions for the show, in Glasgow. Simon Cowell, one of the judges and owner of the show commented that they: “were not very good and incredibly annoying”. However, the Grimes’ twins were still put through to the initial boot camp part of the show and then selected to compete as part of the final 12 acts by Louis Walsh, who is the manager of Irish bands Boyzone and Westlife. The twins came 6th in the competition but were a crowd favourite and developed a cult following. Louis Walsh became the twins’ manager.
Jedward released their first single immediately after leaving the show, called Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby). It was a mashup of Queen’s Under Pressure and Vanilla Ice’s Ice Ice Baby. Vanilla Ice rapped on the mashup, which was released at the end of January 2010. It charted at no.1 in Ireland and no.2 in the UK. After the competition, the twins went on the X Factor Live tour from February to April of 2010 along with fellow contestants.
Jedward went on their first solo Planet Jedward Tour next, covering 69 shows across Ireland and Britain, culminating in a performance at the O2 venue in Dublin for the annual Childline concert.
Planet Jedward was the debut album released on July 16th 2010. It carried Under Pressure as the lead single and the album featured popular songs covered by John and Edward Grimes. Planet Jedward topped the albums chart in Ireland, Britain, Sweden, Austria and Germany.

First single Waterline was used for the Eurovision performance and reached no.5 on the Irish Albums Chart after being released in February 2012. Young Love was the second single, released in June.
Lipstick was performed by Jedward in Dusseldorf, Germany for the Eurovision Song Contest 2011. It was released the day after the competition as the lead single of the 2nd album on the 12th of February. Lipstick reached no.1 on the Irish Singles Chart.
