The band started late in 2006 with Andrew and Sam strumming guitars in a bedroom in Sawley, Nottingham. It began by the two of them just putting a few ideas they both had together to see what could become of them. Originally the music being composed was a mixture of heavy and fast picking riffs with hard breakdowns. The first song created in early 2007 and was always named quite simply, 'Song 1', this was around the same time Ben, their long time friend, joined after asking if they minded him coming along to the jams to play bass. After a couple more months the songs 'Fireworks' and 'If only it was work (at least I’d be getting paid)' were created, these two songs were not as they are today.
All that was missing now to pull it all together was a drummer and a possible singer. Sam happened to be talking to an old friend of his and Andrews, called Scatt, one night in early summer ’07, when Sam mentioned to Scatt, he needed a drummer for the band. Scatt had drummed for other bands before so Sam knew it would be good to have him in this band. Scatt said he would be interested in giving it a go to see what we could come up with.
Strangely enough on that very same night, Andrew was working a night club when he ran into a friend named Si, who was on a night out. They got talking and Andrew explained how he was in a band but needed a singer and a drummer for it, so in a drunken state, Si offered to do it and surprisingly enough he was good.
As a band they began practicing at Viva Republik, a studio ran by another friend, and began transforming the songs 'fireworks' and 'If only it was work (at least I’d be getting paid)' into new, not quite as hardcore music. They decided that the really hardcore scene had been done and wanted to find their own sound. This sound was created by the band known at the time as 'More to Spoil Than to Serve'.....
After being together for just under a year they did just that and the band recorded their first demo 'Play ‘Em All Ep' under the new band name of 'Playin The Victim' with Viva Republik, which they ‘released’ at their first gig on the 2nd July 08 and it went down quite well, over 40 copies were given out. Since then in early October 2008 they recorded a new track, 'The battle of words' at a new studio which was always expected to be featured on the new album which is expected mid to late 2009.
However in early 2009 the band began thinking about the music they were making and how it was reflecting what they wanted it to. Scatt decided that putting in some double bass kicks in certain fills of the songs would 'beef' them up a bit, although it did do this, it left the guitars sounding empty. This was the nail in the coffin for these 'softer songs' and the breakthrough of new heavier music had begun.
After much consideration and questioning of the songs and their future, the band decided that if there was to be a double bass system introduced to the music and to get the following they had always wanted, it was time to evolve. Not into the everyday hardcore music that was about, but into their own form. To do this they would need to re-write all the songs. They could have just written new ones but the original versions of the tracks like 'Fireworks' were too good to just let go. And so it was decided, they would go through all the songs they had, and where possible would remake them. Rebuild them. Make them stronger than ever before. The new target is to have an album finished and ready for recording by the end of November.
With the new music in, now it was time to change the name for one that suited the new style... The new sound.... The new path.... This name was 'A TASTE OF FATE'!
And now they are making a comeback in July with their new name and their new and improved music. Since re-writing a few of their tracks they have been getting alot of attention from all around the world from the UK to LA (thats right the yankees love us!) and hope to maybe make it over there one day :D However until that day comes they are recording a new album and are working to promote the hell out of anything they do... spread the word!
