New York garage rockers The Strokes are hard at work in the studio, recording tracks for their long-awaited fourth album, which follows on from 2005’s First Impressions of Earth. Speaking to the Chicago Tribune, frontman Julian Casablancas has reiterated drummer Fab Moretti’s prediction about when the album will be released. “I think it’ll be out in September.” Casablancas said. “I’ve written a lot of melodies for it, but the other guys have also contributed a lot more: melodies, choruses, parts. It’s way more collaborative. So it’ll have a different feel than our other albums.”
The comments support drummer Moertti’s recent revelation that the band’s recent studio sessions had become a “free for all” of musical ideas.
Following on from the new wave of activity in The Strokes camp, the band have been rumoured to be among the six headliners at this year’s Lollapalooza festival, and Casablancas confirmed that the rumours were in fact true. The American paper is also predicting that Soundgarden, Lady Gaga, Arcade Fire, Green Day and Phoenix will also play the annual event.
The festival’s organisers have yet to confirm any line-up, closely guarding any details for the traditional unveiling in early April
.
Should the rumours be true regarding The Strokes participation at Lollapalooza, the show will be added to an already hectic schedule of shows for the band this summer . The New York rockers have already lined up headlining slots at a number of major European musical festivals this summer, including Rockness in Scotland, South Side in Germany, Hurricane, also in Germany, and Isle of Wight in England.
