Dappy, A History Of His Musical Career
Dappy, aka Costadinos Contostavlos was born on 11 June 1987. He’s a British singer-songwriter, rapper, and also sometimes actor. Dappy is best known for being the lead singer of the Camden/London Grime, hip hop,R&B trio N-Dubz, which also features his cousin Tulisa and their friend Fazer, who used to be Tulisa’s boyfriend. Dappy is well know for his urban dress sense and his love of headwear.
Dappy is known to be a good friend of Radio One DJ Chris Moyles and is also associated with Tinchy Stryder after releasing a single together, titled “Number 1″.Dappy has also made cameo appearances on K.I.G’s “Head, Shoulders, Kneez and Toez” music video, Gracious K’s “Migraine Skank” music video, and Chipmunk‘s “Chip Diddy Chip” music video, as one of Chipmunk’s school friends. Her certainly does the rounds. It was previously announced on Friday, June 17, 2011, that N-Dubz had left their American record deal, which also fuelled rumours that the band had split. Dappy signed a contract with Takeover Entertainment Ltd, confirming his career as a solo artist. His first taste of solo stardom came on Tinchy Stryder’s single, “Spaceship”, released in June 2011. Dappy then released “No Regrets” as his debut solo single. It featured a cameo appearance from band-mate Fazer, “No Regrets” and proceeded to take the charts by storm! it his the number one spot in the UK and Scotland, and at #8 in Ireland.
Following the success of “No Regrets”, Dappy followed suit with “Rockstar“. “Rockstar” was released on February 26, 2012 and featured Queen guitarist Brian May. Dappy’s solo album was Dare To Dream and he claimed that the album “is motivational music for people who believe they can’t do nothing, a battle we have with our own mind.”
We’ve now seen the demise of N-Dubz and Tulisa embarking on her solo career. Do you prefer the solo N-Dubz or them together as a grime supergroup? Do music groups just serve a purpose of launching a solo career now?
