David Bowie’s Birthday falls on the same date as both the announcement of the single and music video for where Are We Now. The announcement of David Bowie’s new album also coincided with Bowie’s 66th birthday; January 8th.
David Bowie is married to Iman Abdulmajid. David and Iman have been married for 21 years. It has been claimed that David Bowie’s songs and music took a back seat so that he could prioritise his marriage and their daughter Alexandria Zahra Jones. David Bowie was previously married to Angela Bowie for 10 years.
Rumours of David Bowie departing from his songs and music were further re-inforced when he declined the personal request from Danny Boyle to be part of London 2012 Olympic opening ceremony.
The only recent times that that David Bowie has been in the public eye is in 2006 for a guest appearance on BBC’s Extras in 2006 alongside Ricky Gervais.
This acting role was followed 2 years later with an appearance in Spongebob Squarepants! It was a far departure from Labyrinth where Bowie had a lead role in the 1980’s.
Jonathan Ross writes in The Guardian that he feels this new song from Bowie is a personal song from David Bowie and a welcome return for fans. The lyrics from the single appear in the music video for ‘Where Are We Now’ which was directed by Tony Oursler. It has been inspired by the time that Bowie spent in Berlin. The lyrics also reference the places Bowie visited whilst he was there.
Where Are We Now Lyrics:
Had to get the train
From Potzdamer platz
You never knew that
That I could do that
Just walking the dead
Sitting in the Dschungel
On Nurnberger strasse
A man lost in time near KaDeWe
Just walking the dead
Where are we now?
Where are we now?
The moment you know
You know, you know
Twenty thousand people
Gross Bose Brucke
Fingers are crossed
Just in case
Walking the dead
Where are we now?
Where are we now?
The moment you know
You know, you know
As long as there’s sun
As long as there’s sun
As long as there’s rain
As long as there’s rain
As long as there’s fire
As long as there’s fire
As long as there’s me
As long as there’s you
