"The Puritan" is the latest single from English alternative rock/britpop band Blur. The song was written by Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree. The song first grasped the attention of the fans after it was played by Damon Albarn at a poetry festival “POEM2012”. It is the band's first single since 2010's "Fool's Day". The track premiered via Twitter live feed along with the single "Under the Westway" 2nd July 2012. It is likely that the singles will be played during Blur's 2012 summer show tour. The performance of "Under the Westway" and "The Puritan" on 2 July were the first live performances of new material since 30th January 1999, when all four members playedat a fan-club concert at Finchley Arts Depot, London. Attention to the band's legacy has led to Blur being awarded “Outstanding Contribution to Music” at the 2012 BRIT Awards and also they will perform at the closing concert of the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games at Hyde Park on 12 August.
