The Flood is the second single to be released from the former Girls Aloud star’s sophomore album ‘Messy Little Raindrops’ and was released in January 2011. The music video was directed by Sophie Muller who also directed the video for ‘hit single ‘Promise This’ and centres on Cheryl Tweedy Cole in the desolate areas of the Southern coast of England accompanied by a cliff-top background struggling to move on from a previous relationship. The single was released in the wake of the deterioration of her relationship with football star Ashley Cole which ended in a very public divorce and resulted in much news about Cheryl and Ashley Cole in tabloids and press articles across the UK and Ireland. The Flood is a touching ballad which shows a different side to the Newcastle-born Cole who is known for her up-beat Kylie Mingoue style dance-floor hits and her role as both a spokes-model for international cosmetic company L’Oreal and as a panellist on The X Factor TV show. The Flood was commercially successful and charted in the top tiers within the UK and Ireland.
Cheryl Cole was born in Newcastle upon Tyne, England and was shot to international fame with girl-group sensation and multiple BRIT award nominated band Girls Aloud. The album ‘Messy Little Raindrops’ was produced Wayne Wilkins and also features guest vocals from will.i.am, Dizzee Rascal August Rigo and Travie McCoy. While Cheryl Cole was in LA during a press conference in April 2012, Cheryl Tweedy Cole publicly announced that she was going to drop the surname Cole that she adopted from former husband Ashley Cole who had been unfaithful to her, and has decided instead to be known purely as ‘Cheryl’ in the future.
