"Turn Up the Music" worked well for most critics, who praised it for its production and compared it to his other singles, "Forever”(2008) and "Yeah 3x"(2010), for how it has a similar musical direction. The video was directed by Godfrey Taberez and Brown, and shot in LA, California. It features Brown appearing at a party filled with masked people, where he performs heavily choreographed dance routines and has been compared to Michael Jackson by several critics. He promoted "Turn Up the Music" by performing it live at the 54th Grammy Awards and during the halftime show of the 2012 NBA All-Star Game. The song's official remix features Brown's former girlfriend, Rihanna. The Underdogs stated that the song's inspiration "was really ‘Chris Brown’ as an artist, visualizing how he dances and how he performs, and giving him something to match that energy."
