A Thousand Years appears on the Twilight Breaking Dawn soundtrack. Christina Perri herself has admitted to being a big fan of the hit series. Perri was inspired to write the song after watching an early version of the film. She said, "I wrote the song for Edward and Bella in their perspective."

The Bruno Mars song "It Will Rain" was originally due to be released as the first single from the soundtrack. The Christina Perri song was brought forward as the first release from the official soundtrack as Bruno Mars wasn't able to finish his video in time for the release date of the movie.

The film is the first of the final two-part instalment of the series. The soundtrack will be released by Atlantic Records on November the 8th. The film is then released on November 18th.
