Acclaimed auteur Michael Haneke returns to his classic themes of guilt, denial and violence in this haunting and provocative feature which was awarded the Palme d'Or at this year's Cannes Film Festival. The White Ribbon is set in a village in Protestant northern Germany on the eve of World War I. It is the story of a village choir run by a schoolteacher - and their families. Strange incidents occur and gradually take on the character of a punishment ritual. But who is behind it all?
