He was originally signed to a minor recording label Beluga Heights, and after they became part of the Warner Music Group he released his first single. "The Sky's the Limit" is the fifth single released from his self-titled album. The single was originally planned for release 20th December 2010 in the UK, but was pushed forward to 15th November 2010. The track was added to radio 1's B-Playlist. The song uses a sample from the Flashdance OST - “What a Feeling.” The video was filmed in late September and premiered online 4th October. It features Jason Derülo in a glass room, dancing along with a woman (Shay Maria). He is wearing a several types of coats, gloves and glasses, while the woman is wearing a black dress. Right at the end, He smiles at the camera while the start of "In My Head" plays. The song debuted in the UK Singles chart at No. 107. The next week, it climbed 18 places to No. 87. Afterwards, "The Sky's the Limit" climbed a further 7 places to No. 80. The single continued to rise as it climbed to No. 68 the following week.
