Katy Perry

Katy Perry (real name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson) was born 25th October 1984 in Santa Barbara, California. She is an American singer-song writer/actress. Growing up she was completely surrounded with gospel music and during her first year of high school she pursued a music career as Katy Hudson, releasing a self-titled studio album, which failed to chart. After that she also released a solo album, which was never released to the public. Seven years later, she signed with Capitol Music Group, the fourth record label she has worked with. She then adopted the stage name Katy Perry which came with a new style, and the reflected in her music. Her first recognition she gained from the public began with the release of her first mainstream album, “One of the Boys” in 2008. The album featured 3 Billboard Hot 100: top 10 hits; "I Kissed a Girl" , “Hot n Cold” and “Waking Up In Vegas”. Katy then supported the release of the album with her “Hello Katy Tour”. Her third and latest studio album “Teenage Dream” was released in 2010. With the release of the album, came 5 No. 1 singles that caused the album to reach the No. 1 position, topping the Billboard 200 chart. These No. 1 singles were “California Gurls” ft. Snoop Dogg, “Teenage Dream”, “Firework”, “E.T.” and “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)”. “Teenage Dream” is the only album since Michael Jackson’s “Bad” to achieve this, and she was the first female in history to achieve this milestone. With the albums release she embarked on the “California Dreams Tour”, which grossed just under $60 million worldwide. A year later, 26th March 2012 the album was re-released under the name “Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection” and It has already had another No. 1 single with Part of Me . She is the only artist to have spent over 52 consecutive weeks in the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100, and has since heightened this to 69 weeks. In the 2012 Grammy Awards she was nominated for 8 awards, where she won the title of 2011’s “Artist of the Year” by MTV.
