Official music video for the track Wide Awake by Katy Perry. Wide Awake is the 8th single from American pop star Katheryn Hudson A.K.A. Katy Perry’s third studio album Teenage Dream. The single Wide Awake was released on May 22nd and reached no.2 on the US Billboard Hot 100, no.9 on the UK Singles Chart and topped the charts in Belgium, Canada, New Zealand and Poland. The single is available on the re-release of the album called Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection. The accompanying music video shows Katy Perry going to her dressing room after a shoot for the California Gurls music video. She looks into the mirror and roots and eventually whole plants fill the room. The room transforms to a dark open space with an old stone wall full of vines before her. Perry is now dressed in a purple and black costume and purple hair and is holding a lantern. She makes her way through an open door in the wall and is in an open top labyrinth with ankle level fog and light snowfall. She eventually comes across a single strawberry on a vine and eats it. As the wall close on her a firework shoots from her chest and explodes above the labyrinth which is shown to extend as far as the eye can see. Katy Perry continues and hidden door opens in a wall, where a child representation of herself greets her and holding hands they progress. The two Katy’s are now in yellow attire and in a hall of ornate mirrors, the end mirror has evil looking paparazzi photographing them as the older Katy stands transfixed. The younger Katy attempts to warn her that the floor is collapsing while the older woman breaks the mirror. The next scene shows Katy Perry in a wheelchair holding a strawberry and is being pushed by the young girl. Two minotaurs dressed in medical uniforms stand at the end of this corridor. Young Perry defeats them by stomping on the floor unleashing a blast that throws the minotaurs into the air and revitalises the older Katy who then pulls her younger self through the doors and into a garden in full bloom. A prince charming is mounted on a unicorn there. He greets the adult Perry but she punches him so hard he falls through a wall. The exit is in sight, the two women embrace, and the younger hands something to the adult and is seen running to her bike on a suburban road. The older Katy Perry finds herself back in her dressing room with a butterfly in her hand and is wearing another California Gurls costume. The last short scene shows Katy Perry rising on a platform to a concert stage before a huge audience.

The video has been one of the best received by the critics siting this is her best video to date from the album. It has been compared to scenes from Alice in Wonderland. Katy Perry performed Wide Awake live as her debut performance of the single at the Billboard 2012 Awards, May 12 2012 where she started the tune off in a cocoon and turned into a butterfly and was regarded as the best live performance of the night.
