Official music video for the track Rize Of The Fenix by Tenacious D. Rize of the Fenix is the upcoming third album by American rock band Tenacious D, which is set for release on May 15, 2012. Following up there Gold selling soundtrack to the previous album can’t have been easy but Tenacious D have yet again stuck the right chord with their new record. The album is the Tenacious D we know and love but the record also has a few tricks up its sleeve. Six years after the release of their film/album The Pick of Destiny, Kyle Gass and Jack Black return as Tenacious D to unleash their third album upon the world. Not going it alone, the acoustic American rockers have once again called upon the beastly drumming friend and long time collaborator of Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters & Nirvana).
As he has on each D album to date, Dave Grohl lays down a tough bedrock of punishing drums. Returning from The Pick of Destiny are John Konesky (electric guitar) and John Spiker (bass, keyboards). Comic sketches are kept to a relatively minimum. "Classical Teacher," in which Black hires a guitar instructor for Gass, is the funniest of the two spoken-word bits. It's an instant classic, easily living up to the brilliance of sketches such as "Inward Singing" and "Drive-Thru" from their 2001 self-titled debut.
Tenacious D at their best, they are able to transcend the joke behind their very existence. Going all the way back to their short-lived HBO sitcom, the humor stemmed from seeing two slovenly, overweight Americans truly believing they were rock gods. But the real punch line was that their songs actually rocked! Happily, Rize of the Fenix continues that tradition.
