Fairytale of New York was first released in the charts over 25 years ago and has entered the charts every year for the past 8 years at Christmas. The song was originally written by frontman Shane McGowan and Jem Finer and is featured on The Pogues album "If I Should Fall From Grace" released in 1987.

The song is an Irish Folk ballad and was first performed on the populat BBC TV show Top of the Pops which propelled the song Fairytale of New York to number 2 in the UK charts. It never reached the number one spot over the past 25 years. The song has been covered by Coldplay, Christy Moore, Sinead O' Connor and Florence Welch amongst lots of others.
