Official UK Top 40 Chart

The Official UK Top 40 is a weekly chart that contains the best-selling singles of that week. Unlike the US Billboard chart, which uses a mixture of sales and the number of times a song is played on the radio, the UK chart is based only on single sales. The chart week runs from 00:01 Sunday to midnight Saturday

Did You Know:

As of January 2012 1,184 different singles have been number one in the UK charts The official charts only began in 1969. Prior to this the BBC compiled its own chart Before sales of records were counted, a song's popularity would be based on the sales of sheet music Around 6500 retail stores and most major digital download stores give their sales records to make up the charts The first song to reach number one in the Official UK Top 40 Chart without releasing a physical single was Leona Lewis. Her song reached number one with only digital sales. Elvis Presley is credited with having the most UK number one singles. Twenty-one of his singles have reached the coveted #1 spot.. The Beatles are in second place with seventeen number ones.
