Sweep Picking!!!!!! This solo is going to use a lot of different techniques but one of the neatest concepts you can learn is sweep picking. Everyone from Steve Vai all the way to Rusty Cooley use this awesome technique. They really can give your playing a sophisticated sound. Take these ideas and really run with them. Do not be afraid to apply this technique to the other solos we learned in the course. We will also cover muting and how we can use our palm to keep some of those unwanted notes quite. Make sure to watch the right hand for some of the hybrid picking licks. Guys like Brent Mason and Johnny Hiland are masters at this and are really taking this to a whole new level. One of my first guitar teachers Gene Dickersheid told me “piano players use all the fingers on both hands and why shouldn’t weâ€. He’s right! We should get used to using both sets of fingers. This will provide you with a couple of extra digits (fingers) which will make a lot of complicated licks much easier.
