Will.i.am
will.i.am if the first name (minus the dots) of the multi talented American entertainer. Music, movies, businesses and reality show judge, will.i.am has spread his talents across a number of areas and managed to excel is each of them. Hailing from The City of Angels (Los Angeles), will.i.am first began dabbling in the art of RnB while in school. This is where formed The Black Eyed Peas, which is he was the founding member of.
In 1997, the group settled for the final name of Black Eyed Peas. They signed to Interscope Records in 1998. They released their debut album, Behind the Front in June of that year with singer Kim Hill. The lead single was Joints and Jam, released that November. Bridging the Gap was the group’s second album, released in September a year later. It had three singles: BEP Empire, Weekends and Request + Line.
Lost Change was the first solo record by Will.i.am. It is also the sound track to the synonymous film. It was released on October 2nd 2001. Elephunk was The Black Eyed Peas’ third album, where Kim Hill was replaced by Stacey “Fergie” Ferguson as a permanent member. ‘Where is the Love?’ was the lead single, released on the 16th of June 2003. It unofficially featured Justin Timberlake. Eight days later the album Elephunk was released, reaching number 15 on the US Billboard Hot 200 and charting in 2nd on the UK Albums Chart.
Adams released his 2nd solo album in September 2003. It was titled Must B 21. No singles were released from it.
The hip-hop group’s 4th album Monkey Business was released in May 2005. The album reached second on the US Billboard Top 200, reached top spot in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Mexico and other countries. My Humps was the unintended 3rd single; it was only released after being regularly played on radio. It was originally written by Will.i.am for the Pussycat Dolls.
Adams, together with Jimmy Lovine’s Interscope Records, next co-created and produced for the Paradiso Girls, a girl group spin-off to the Pussycat Dolls. After two singles, they are on indefinite hiatus.
Will.i.am next produced and featured on a political compilation album called Change Is Now: Renewing America’s Promise. It was released in support of newly inaugurated president Barack Obama in April 2009.
In June 2009, the Black Eyed Peas released a comeback album, The E.N.D. The group’s 5th album reached 1st on the US Billboard 200 and 3rd on the UK Albums Chart. It produced the Black Eyed Peas’ first three number one American singles for Boom Boom Pow, I Gotta Feeling
The Beginning was the Black Eyed Peas’ 6th studio album, released on the last day of November in 2010. This album also received widespread success, reaching 6th place on the US Billboard 200 and 8th on the UK albums Chart. It produced three widely successful singles; The Time, Just Can’t Get Enough and Don’t Stop the Party.
Will.i.am had begun to record a third solo album at the time of The Beginning being recorded. His album is called #willpower and will be released in 2012. Its lead single is T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever)peaking at no.3 on the UK Singles Chart
Adams has produced and collaborated with many other artists. He features on Cheryl’s 3 Words, Usher’s Here I Stand and Raymond vs. Raymond, Flo Rida’s Mail on Sunday and R.O.O.T.S., Rihanna’s Rated R and Britney Spears’ Femme Fatale.
Adams had his film debut in a voiceover role as the animal character Moto Moto, a hippopotamus in Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa. He also features on the motion picture soundtrack. Will.i.am went on to star in the big role of John Wraith a.k.a. Kestrel in the X-Men Series prequel X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The movie was released on May 1st 2009.
He starred in another animated film; Rio. He provides the voice for the character of the bird Pedro. Adams again features on the soundtrack. Will.i.am also made a cameo appearance in the 2010 film Date Night.
In the UK, will.i.am’s career has extended beyond writing and performing music and he was selected as a judge of the reality music show The Voice UK. Speak exclusively to MUZU.TV will.i.am revealed his collaborations on his new album including tracks with Justin Bieber and Alicia Keys amongst others.
His track Reach For The Stars was also selected as the inaugural track to be played on the NASA voyage to Mars in 2012. This Is Love is the most listened to of his tracks on MUZU.TV
