There is a very good chance that you have heard about the actress named Annette Bening. Annette has a total of four children with the filmmaker and actor, Warren Beatty. One of these children, Stephen Ira Beatty, has built up the courage to open up about being a trans man.
Back in the year 2012, Stephen, who was originally born Kathlyn Beatty, decided to make a video for a website that is known as WeHappyTrans.com. In this video he would share and detail some of his experience about transitioning from a woman into a man. While it was not an easy thing to record or even talk about, Stephen thought that it would be inspirational and motivation to others who felt as though they were simply born the wrong gender.
The Transition of Stephen Beatty
In this heartfelt video, Stephen, who was only 20 years old at the time of recording, had described himself as being a trans man, a queer, a homosexual, a writer, a nerd fighter, and an artist who had started the beautiful transformation process of becoming a man while he was still only a teenager.
He made sure to point out how all of his friends had supported him through the entire transformation process, but for whatever reason, he decided to leave his parents out of the video. He would also make a point to mention how he was still undergoing hormonal therapy and that at the current moment, had liked to present himself to others as a ‘fem’. He would dress up in drag and wear rings, necklaces, and even ribbons. He would complete his video by adding that he had dreams of becoming an English teacher and writer, writing any and everything from fiction to poetry.
Stephen would be involved in some controversy back in 2011, right after he had gone out of his way to heavily criticize someone named Chaz Bono, who was another transgender person. In this particular situation, Stephen would end up calling Chaz a ‘misogynist’, who wasn’t doing any favors for how he was representing the entire transgender community. Stephen would have such a huge reaction to Chaz because he was caught saying that being transgender was simply a ‘birth defect’ and not a lifestyle choice. Chaz would even go on to compare transgenderism to that of a cleft palate. He would finish by saying that being a male with breasts was simply ‘the very worst’ thing that he could ever imagine in his life.
At the end of the day, it is safe to say that Stephen did not like the statement that Chaz had said and would go on to label him a ‘rich, white trans guy’. He would argue with the media that all of the testosterone that Chaz had taken turned him into a giant ‘misogynist’.
Stephen on the Death of Leelah Alcorn
Not being the first time that Stephen would be caught in a very controversial topic, in 2015 he would again share his thoughts with the world. This time however, it would be on the death of Leelah Alcorn. Leelah was a 17-year-old who was also a transgender from Ohio. Soon after discovering that their son identified himself as a girl, they would take her out of school. Unfortunately, this would lead Leelah to taking her own life.
After hearing about this tragic event, Stephen would take to Twitter and tweet a very heartfelt message about the entire situation, recommending that Leelah’s parents not have any children if they are unable to deal with having a child that considers themselves to be trans.
What Annette Bening Thinks of Her Son
Although Stephen did not make even one mention of his parents when he made his video back in 2012, his mother and his father have both been extremely vocal about how much they support and love their son, especially in recent years.
For example, Stephen’s mother, Annette, would be doing an interview in 2019 and let everyone know how elegantly her son had been able to handle the difficult transition, as it is no easy transition for anybody to make. The kicker is that Stephen would actually start to identify as being a man when he was only 14 years old. Annette would then go on to add that Stephen had been able to manage something that is more challenging than most people will ever know, and he did it with great intelligence and style. She finished the interview by saying how proud she was of her son for accomplishing everything that he had accomplished.
Annette has gone on to say that when it came to parenting, her main goal was to always do her best to shelter her children from any kind of pain or suffering. However, it would be through Stephen’s transformation that she would discover they everybody must go through their own issues if they are ever going to grow up.
When it comes to Stephen Beatty and his transformation from a female to a male, it is a journey that most people will never understand. However, for him to have the will power and braveness to complete it is simply inspiring.
